Food in Munnar
Only the traditional food of Kerala can distract you from the mesmerising beauty of Munnar. Refreshing tea flavoured with honey or the fresh coffee – best had black – is the best way to start your culinary sojourn here. The most popular south Indian dishes will appear on your breakfast menu. Start your day with the most famous dish of Kerala - dosa! However, you must also try vada, idli and appam for breakfast alongside chutneys flavoured with locally-grown spices. You can sample Puttu (steamed rice cakes) and Palappam (a richer, fluffier version of dosa). When you’re extremely hungry, try the traditional Sadhya (meaning ‘banquet’ in Malayalam) served on a banana leaf. Sadhya is a mouth-watering mixture of Aviyal (vegetables cooked in coconut paste), Thoran (a dry curry made with raw jackfruit and yam), stew (a mild and soothing creamy curry), Injipuli (a sour side dish made with ginger), sambhar, rasam and other mixed veggies. You can also fill your tummy with biryanis, a bowl of prawn curries, fish curries and stews. You must end your meal on a sweet note with the state-favourite, Payasam (a kind of kheer). Visit the native tea stalls called thattukadas and sip on a cup of tea made from aromatic tea leaves grown right here in Munnar. And to relish all these delights, make your way to Caramel, one of the best restaurants in Munnar, in our Club Mahindra Mount Serene Resort in Munnar. After enjoying the lavish spread, relax in our Club Mahindra Mount Serene Munnar resort rooms with your family, before you head out to rejuvenate yourself at Svaastha Spa.
