Places to Visit & Holiday Activities in Cherai

Whether it is the sea or the backwaters, get an energetic workout as you go kayaking. Rowing or drifting amidst the silence of the gently flowing water is a beautiful experience. If you always watched fishermen pulling in their catch or anglers reeling in their bounty, then try your hand at it. It might seem difficult, and initially it will be so, but with a few tries it becomes not only easy but loads of fun. And the thrill of reeling in your own catch is exciting. If you are in the mood for some brisk activity in Cherai but don’t want to walk around, then pick one a bicycle and lazily bike around the campus. It is fun to weave in and out of the paths amidst the lawns and to get an overall feel of the place.

Visit the 46-metre lighthouse near Vypin jetty. Climb up to the observation platform on the tower for fantastic, panoramic views of the sea, the palm-fringed backwaters and for scenic views of miles around the area. It is open from 3 pm to 5 pm, but cross check. With the sea on one side and backwaters in the distance, this is a very scenic beach fringed by palm and coconut trees in the background. You can just take long walks on the golden sands or indulge in more adrenaline-kicking activities such as kayaking and others. Also watch out for dolphins. Head South from the resort to reach Fort Kochi where a fabulous sight is bound to mesmerize. Ranged against the sky and inlet to the sea are a row of giant Chinese fishing nets which are a sight to see. Time your visit for morning or late evening when the nets are hauled for their catch. Located where the sea and the backwaters meet, it is just a few minutes from the resort. It is a nice place at sunrise or sunset, when you can watch fishermen cast their nets. You can also do a boat ride, hire a pedal boat or row boat to idly skim the water surface or do your own fishing. A picturesque location, it is perfect to catch the local fishermen in their traditional canoes and colourful boats. While Breakwater Point is best enjoyed during sunset when everything is washed in the golden rays of the setting sun, spend a night in a houseboat to best enjoy Cherai’s backwaters.
